Anyone can add to the LCF Leave the Legacy Fund and get a tax receipt for any amount you choose to donate over $25. Your gift will be pooled into this Fund, which is held at the WECF, and you can be sure that the principle will not be spent and grow over time, providing a source of lasting support for the Community of LaSalle. We like to honor those who contribute above & beyond.

Feature Benefactor – Don and Mary Harris

As my retirement transition date, October 2024, approached, I thought it would be fun to mark the occasion with something significant. As a new Financial Advisor, I had started my Edward Jones business in LaSalle from scratch. This meant getting out of the office, exploring the streets and neighborhoods of LaSalle, and introducing myself to many LaSalle families and businesses. It certainly gave me a great perspective of the people and the town. Over the years, since 1997, I have been a part of many community projects, but the first significant one was the building of the Vollmer Complex. I was proud that Mary and I were the first donors to step forward with a cheque. Being from a small community, I remember my parents stepping up, with what they could, when our arena needed to be replaced in the early 1970’s .

Mary and I raised our family here in LaSalle, benefiting from our great schools and organizations like The Turtle Club, LaSalle Minor Hockey, LaSalle Stompers, Skate LaSalle, and others. We enjoyed our great trails, riverfront, and felt well protected by our LaSalle community policing. I had a lot to be thankful for, including building a successful business in the town. Edward Jones has always been a big proponent of improving the communities we do business in, so clearly, taking all of this into consideration, a community gift would be a logical choice.

The objectives of the LaSalle Community Fund (LCF) are to advance Cultural and Leisure activities, promote education, protect the environment, promote social welfare and health programs, and support complementary organizations in the town of LaSalle. It seemed like an easy choice to make a significant donation to the LCF Legacy Fund, which could provide for the community in perpetuity, to celebrate my milestone, and to give back as a family.

Full disclosure, I am an associate of the LCF, but someday I will not be. I am, however, comfortable that others will be true to our Mission, Vision, and Objectives, which makes the whole process rather carefree. Most importantly, our hope is that other community-minded people will continue to add to the Legacy Fund, grow the annual endowment, and enhance the community of LaSalle and its citizens.
